Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
So I went to Kinokuniya today....
And I have these things to say :

1. Newtype Romance is LOVELY. They're running a series of Code Geass 15-page short stories, like fanfics if you will. I've read some of the author's shoujo novels (she writes Sun Ce + Zhou Yu) and while she completely fails at dramatic tension, she's quite good at friendship banter. So it might work well. It's titled 'Student Council Case Files', a series of ghost stories in Ashford where our beloved Seitokai plays Ghostbusters. Lulu included. I haven't read it yet, but skimmed through some parts and it's interesting. (Rune, you might like this)
2. Newtype Romance also has this special drama CD. CRAZY REQUEST FROM FANGIRLS WHICH THEY FULFILLED : Lelouch and Rivalz's shower room conversation on girls and dressing up as cats. I love how Lelouch was like "WTF I draw attention!?" You didn't realize, Lulu?
3. Newtype itself : So this month's Bokura no Hibi has C.C. getting matching Cheese-chan and Cheese-kun raincoats for herself and Lulu. Only LL seems less than happy. Should I start calling these two the Cheese Fusai now? (Seriously, they're acting like a married couple)
4. Was intending to buy Animage, too, but 35-page feature or no, I AM NOT GOING TO BUY THAT COVER IN A STORE WHERE ALL THE CLERKS REMEMBER ME. What the hell were they thinking!? Give us a middle-page spread instead!)

5. Lulu is totally the only main character where, after 25 episodes, his Sunrise official artists still haven't got the knack of making him look consistent in all the shots.
6. I finally figured out my main issue with Code Geass on the ride back : To paraphrase, it's like a great striptease that almost but never quite gets to the sex.

So uh... what would the sex be?

Actually doing something that isn't a reiteration of the obvious with a few new tidbits tucked in, and having a chain of events that isn't.......rewindable, and is resolved meaningfully somewhere? CG enjoys throwing out red herrings a bit too much, atm, so a number of its episodic plot hooks matter less than suggested.

Mmm, CG is all kind of warped because of the weird compression and all. I guess next season, though, they will need to wrap things up. A plot heavy series generally has to be judged by its ending.

I'm also hoping Season Two will be a bunch of awesome and Best Thing Ever's, so I can finally say I have no issues with CG as a whole series. And 24-25, disappointing enough as they are for climaxes, are quite good lead-ins. Despite having a bit of diminished hope, I'm still holding out the torch for it.

I hope so too. Maybe this time they'll finally have all the time they need, with the success of the show?

Mmm, time, and the knowledge that they'll get whatever it takes to carry the story to the end. I heard that Season Two didn't get the green light til Dec 06, and that's a really close call considering it takes about 3 months to make an episode, even if they make 3-4 episodes in tandem. And they don't have to plan for the hiatus cliffhanger anymore. XD

1. I might be interested for its likeness to a certain neglected fandom? XD Anyway, while checking some J-fanartists' blogs, I seem to be seeing a common fen outburst regarding one Newtype Romance, uhh, "fanfic" which involves a bound and gagged Lulu. Is there one like that?

4. ...the bottled water ad aka fanservice gone wrong?

You see, I tried not to look at the bits at the bottom that you called spoiler.

1. IS NO LAUGHING MATTER SRSLY. So there's mounting resentment against Elevens in Ashford school---indeed, in most schools---and there are pretty Nazi about it. In all this tension, you get a Mysterious Transfer...and Eleven girl called Rio (she's not a Sue, if you're worried, and is one-shot), whose presence triggered a plan from those Nazis. That particular plan was originally to kill another student and put the blame on her, and...she happens to be around the Seitokai, and who happens to be the worse Eleven Sympathizer?

They plan to kill him for the sake of racial purity, so to speak. No wonder why Zero is not amused by the whole issue.

...she happens to be around the Seitokai, and who happens to be the worse Eleven Sympathizer?

A fellow Eleven by the name of Suzaku? Why wait for another Eleven to come by to hatch the plan (obvious reasons aside)? Is this happening before the start of the series or well past it?

Gods, the way those bloggers squee... XD makes people with half-baked Japanese like myself think otherwise about the nature of the fic. IMO they really liked the idea of bondage!Lulu.

Somewhere in the middle. Suzaku is already there, but he hasn't transferred for so long. I think they've been trying to hatch the plan for sometime, but only had a Eureka Moment with it when she's there? And besides, having a person who accepts/protects/sympathizes with lowly elevens is sort of like treason, and that's a worse affront in their minds than being one yourself?

You should know by now that JFen sees everything through a certain lens----or at least blog about it that way. A helpless Lulu who can't Geass people should be right up their alley if doujinshis are any judge. XD Suzaku *did* come to save him though, which bloggers totally lost blood over. XDDD

I suppose an Eleven offing another Eleven won't set much of the intended fire on the Britannians' tails though it would be killing two birds with one stone. I was going to argue that Suzaku would make a better victim (militant aspects aside) being an infamous blood traitor (HP ref, woo!) and a Britannian royal's knight, but never mind that now...

Yes, I know *sigh*. Not that they can't be fun and guilty pleasures and all that. That 95% of the blogs I referred to had been SuzaLulu-oriented probably had a lot to do with the squeeing, too.

Are we to expect bits and pieces of trans from [info]verity_isle? No?

[info]equivalent_t
2007-07-29 04:08 pm UTC (link)
Making Suzaku the victim also has the problem of capturing Suzaku in the first place. XDD He's also not a knight yet, no. And you're right, it's the purging fire they wanted, not just removing Elevens. What better way than to tell people the Elevens just killed one of their own?

Well, 95% of my Geass flist are SuzaLulu....XD But we take pleasure from different things, I guess. I'm seeing quite a bit of "24-25 could have been better. :/" from around here, but there, they have no complaints that I could see. XD

Maybe? It's going to be an ongoing series, so I'm not sure if I should commit. At the very least, though, you can expect a summary whenever my English gets back online. You might've noticed it's not quite up to par today.

Ah, well, every Code Geass fan I'm acquainted to hasn't been SuzaLulu including most of my flist. Wanna swap? XD I know someone who really supports Lulu/Euphemia/Suzaku, or two out of the three sans BL... . As for LuluMilly... can't say I've met much expressed interest either.

I'm seeing quite a bit of "24-25 could have been better. :/" from around here, but there, they have no complaints that I could see.

So I, the het/gen fan with BL amusements, ended up with a BL flist and you ended up just the opposite? XDD Oh, the world! I'm lucky in knowing a LuluMillay fan in my flist, though. I think the only CG fan who posts CG regularly in flist that you don't know is Defade? It's just that she, uh, has a lax spoiler policy.

Here = WFen, There = JFen. XD

Structure of the thing being what it is, I'm not sure if I could select out the bits and have it make sense. We'll see?

Nayami must be the only one on my list with a visible SuzaLulu leaning. I remember her saying she also liked the OT3. Although! I'm slowly gaining influence over one person with regards to the dreaded LloydMilly ship XD. Don't recall what I specifically said.

But do you mean Defade's the only CG comm poster on your flist who isn't on mine? If the others aren't so vocal in fen, how did you get to friend them? Wait. It's the reverse, isn't it.

From observation, J-fen is a good deal easier to amuse than us. May they have long lives.

Pretty much yes. :D Defade is the only one---the others, we met through [info]worldserpent, mostly. She's a metablogger and I think I happened to be raving so much about Geass that it caught her interest. XD

On that front : J!Fen are usually a great deal less persistent than W!Fen, though. :/ Even if/when we go, we usually leave our archives behind. Oh ephemeral beauty! (I feel a bit bad for late-coming fans of Code Geass, a few years from now. Part of the fun is being here in the moment, I think, with its insane multicanon approach and supplemental merchandise and little stories in magazines. I'm sure the Japanese loves playing detective with all the semicanon they can find)

I can make some as soon as my English returns to full form. :D You might notice my sentences are not very coherent today. XD

Right now there's only one story, but it's quite long. 15 Newtype pages. Not sure how many stories they'll have eventually, but I hope lots. This is much better bang for the buck than Bokura no Hibi.

OT, but I had to get this off my chest or I'll cry. Apparently I've missed out on Ashi's "Cogito" T_T. I'm seriously contemplating on getting her "Rose" before it gets out of print but so far it's only available on Japanese websites. I don't think she prints enough copies of her doujins as to give western secondary market a chance *is sad*.

DDD:

Isn't there any dealers who can do business through Tora no Ana? It seems that's where the doujinshika sells their stuff online. I think a low printing is the sad fate of anything that's their equivalent of Serious Genfic (Sort of) With Yaoi Tendencies. :/

Well I could go back to my shopping agent, but I try to avoid resorting to their service due to the extra expenses (lost too much money on those) which is why I diligently check Mandarake. When push comes to shove, however, I might overlook the costs, you know, since Cogito is virtually gone from the market... Why, Ashi? ;_;

Didn't you say you wanted Rose?

I do! But old habits die hard and I don't make online purchases of anything unless I absolutely have to. Especially anything from Japan.

If she pulls her stuff off that quickly, though, I might soon relent. :s Is it cheaper to just buy one doujinshi through these channels, or multiples? I've got a few more things I'm interested in from artists I like, but their subject matters aren't so rare. :sss

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]runesque

Buying multiples saves on shipping and handling and wire/bank transfer, but you need to remember that a 500 yen charge is applied on every item =(. So you've got to be strategic about your purchases. I guess I'll pick up Rose along with an extra just to justify the costs a bit.

I am thankful for doujinkas and their sites because, without a proper sneak peek, I wouldn't have considered half the doujins I have today. But some seem to serve as mere professional tools, eg. Hachimitsuouji. I think I have the most fun on Mayu's site + blog XDD - her YamaYama drawings!! And she updates frequently. Where's the continuation to your AU, Chibota?

Prtcode is the epitome of the fanblog-----while some circles use the site merely as a gateway, Mayu totally has fun. XDD She always has a comic up to comment on EVERYTHING. I'm so spoiled following her site. XD

Jigsco.com is cheaper by 400 yen than most agents, which doesn't sound much but you'll want to save every single cent. I've used them once and had no complaint. And, yes, PayPal would be safer than most payment methods.

Prtcode is quite popular, I've noticed, since it's practically on everyone's bookmark pages XD. Oh, and Mochiko's blog!

Chibota hasn't updated in months! RL business probably.

Prtcode is popular and old. It's one of those few sites that's been there since day once, keeps up immense love, and is still running. 24toki's, too. XD After Cou.com, the latter site used to be THE place to go if you want some thought-provoking images.

.....I, uh, also write stuff once every few months. >_> She's still around, though. Her blog's pretty updated...although, that may not be much since every self-respecting CG fan would update the past weekend. XD

And it helps that Prtcode draws proportions nicely, too ^^. But I think she draws crack more than angst? -> no complaint here. I've had trouble telling Cou and Dalc Rose apart in terms of art style x_x. I just saw the updates on 24toki (I read it as 24ji XD I knew something was off!) and spoiled myself a little on the doodlings. I was amused at the first one which looked like something she wished had happened XD. Tell me nothing about the accuracy of the second one, though, as I saw a similar one over on Prtcode ;_;.

Don't fret, it's the thought process that counts. Quality over quantity, no? Goes without saying that few in the audience are blessed with le patience.

Oh yes, definitely more crack. And the angst she does....is not top quality angst, so to speak. It's always a bit too self-indulgent to cross the mire into devastating territory. No complaints about that, though! And since she buys everything, I'm kept abreast of good deals just by browsing her blog. XD (24 ji is not wrong, I just tend to err on the kun-yomi side XD)

24 and Prtcode are the JFen equivalent of people on the same flist. They talk about what each other find ALL THE TIME. XDDD

Yes. Well. And there's the fact that I'm really more of a fanartist at the creative process than a fanficcer? A fanficcer tells a good story. I just come up with a nice, still scene, and paint it using words. Can't string up a story to save my life, even if I can come up with it.......you aren't saying I'm taxing the patience of people who reads me, are you? XD Or is that directed at Chibota?

BTW, the new art up at Ashi's site just reminded me that Lulu also likes pudding. Pudding Earl vs. Pudding Prince. Now that's a good scenario.

(And this is OT, but I love how in that interview he was like "European food? Clarify 'Europe'. Oh, you mean the continent. I like Italians." That's like the few Brits I've met. XD)

I saw it! XDD I wonder what they're saying that somehow brings the pudding into the limelight? That reminds me - is the password for Lancelot's... whatever nifty trick it was made to do... "purin", his favourite thing? (Is Lloyd taking a leaf out of Dumbledore's book?)

(Which interview was this in? The Pash! one? LOL I guess whoever wrote it up nailed Britannian, inadvertently or not)

Lloyd : [The Rolling-y Pudding Type] How regrettable for you~~~ The wondrousness of carefully measure pudding is simply a Law of Physics!
Zero : [The Bouncy Pudding Type] Wrong! Incorrect! The true puddingness of pudding is only with its bouncy puddingitude!
Cecile : [The Handmade Jam Type] My, where should the punchline go in this?
Suzaku : [Miso Mix Type]
CC : [Pizza Type]

XD

(Yes, the Pash! Interview. I really wish I have a bigger scan of those, since the translation doesn't quite catch the speech mode of these two. But it suffices. And yes, they totally have Britannian-ness nailed. XDD)
